The Camp

The 2024 Truro Fencing Club Summer Sabre Training Camp will take place between Monday 29th July & Saturday 3rd August. NB: This is a sabre only training camp.

All facilities for training are on-site at Truro School, Trennick Lane, Truro, Cornwall, TR1 1TH. The camp caters for sabre fencing only and sessions are held in the Cornwall Fencing Centre & the Sir Ben Ainslie Sports Centre – all located at the school.

The camp is suitable for all ages and abilities except for absolute beginners. Many international cadet and junior fencers join our camp, and the quality of fencing is consistently extremely high.

Lunch, water, sports drinks and energy snacks are all included in the cost of training.

Cancelation Policy

If Truro Fencing Club cancels the camp for any reason:

100% refund

If the fencer withdraws from the camp:

From February 1st to May 31st 2024 – 100% refund
From June 1st to June 30th 2024 – 50% refund
From July 1st 2024 onwards – no refund

Accommodation

Full board is available for this years’ Truro Fencing Club Summer Camp.

Fencers are urged to act swiftly, completing this form, and emailing it to events@truroschool.com to secure your accommodation booking.

Early Bird rate – accommodation that is booked before 31st March is £65pppn+VAT and from 1 April it increases to £70pppn+VAT. NB: This amount is payable to Truro School directly.

The Coaches

The Truro Fencing Club Summer Camp will also expect to be bringing in our usual brilliant team of external coaches for sabre, to help prepare athletes for the forthcoming fencing season. The international coaches compliment our in-house Truro Fencing Club coaching team:

Balazs Kurucz

Balazs is Head Coach at Truro Fencing Club. Formerly sabre coach at Godollo Club in Hungary, (winners of the 2012 Hungarian Team Championships) and coach to Junior World Championship team gold medallists & many top fencers.

Stuart Marshall

Coach Stuart Has represented GB at Cadet, Junior and Senior, European and World Championships. Since he retired he has been creating fencers for the British fencing team at various levels for the last 10 years. Sturart has been coaching in San Jose, California coming away with 7 US Nationals medals. Stuart is now Head Coach of Premier Sabre Academy in Manchester.

Peter Frohlich

Chris Buxton

Chris is a 5 time British champion and former British No 1. Chris was a member of the British sabre team from 1997 – 2010, spending three years in Hungary training full time in Budapest with the Hungarian national team and his coach, Peter Frohlich. In 2008 he started his coaching career at Truro Fencing Club and over the next 7 years oversaw the development of their youth squad including many fencers that would go on to national and international success. Chris was also Head of Guernsey Fencing Academy and is now head Coach of Shakespeare’s Swords Fencing Club, developing their sabre programme based at King Edward VI School in Stratford upon Avon since 2019.

James Martin

Steve Petrie

Steve is a certified strength and conditioning coach and works closely with the TFC High Performance programme. Steve sets and leads all the Strength and Conditioning training of the club’s elite fencers up to Olympic level.
