There were some outstanding performances over the weekend at the Budapest Junior World Cup. In the women’s sabre, Truro’s Caiti Maxwell scored a magnificent SILVER medal with a stirring performance, just missing out on the title 15-13. This was Caiti’s first World Cup podium finish. She put out Peter (GER), Corteyn (BEL), Koroleva (RUS), Drozd (RUS), Conscience (FRA) and Ilieva (BUL) before losing out to Ousztai (HUN) in the final. Maia Fashokun made the L128.

Caiti has also met the qualification criteria for the Junior World’s and Euros, with selection for these events happening soon! Other Truro fencers representing GB at this event were Jenna Bray, Molly Wood and Hannah O’Reilly.

In men’s sabre Bertie Holdsworth made the L32 in a field of over 150; Jamie Craze reached the L64, scoring the last few points he needed to meet the qualification criteria for the Junior European and world championships; Sam Boorne made it into the L128 where he lost narrowly.

Congratulations to all our fencers and the coaching support team!
